Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
TechySkitter ("we," "us," or "our") publishes the AnyTime mobile application ("App"). AnyTime lets you find and chat with people who are physically near you, using your phone's Bluetooth and direct device-to-device Wi-Fi. It is designed to work with no internet connection.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, where that information is kept, who can see it, and the choices you have. By installing or using the App, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. The Short Version
AnyTime has no servers. Your account, your contacts and your messages are stored only on your own phone, and messages travel directly from your phone to the other person's phone. We do not receive, collect, store, sell or share any of it, because none of it is ever sent to us.
- No sign-up with us: no phone number, no email address and no password. Your account is created on your device and never leaves it.
- No internet transfer: the App does not send your data over the internet.
- No advertising and no analytics: the App contains no ads, no ad identifiers, no usage tracking and no crash-reporting service.
- End-to-end encrypted: messages and photos are encrypted so that only you and the person you are chatting with can read them.
3. Information Stored on Your Device
The following information is created by you or by the App and is kept in the App's private storage on your phone. It is not uploaded anywhere.
- Account details: the username you choose, your date of birth and your gender. Your date of birth is used only to confirm that you meet the minimum age and to show your age on your own profile screen.
- Identity keys: cryptographic keys generated on your device. They identify your device to other AnyTime users and are used to encrypt your conversations.
- Messages and photos: the text messages and photos you send and receive, together with their delivery status.
- Contacts and requests: the people you have accepted, chat requests you have sent or received, and your list of blocked users.
- Nearby devices: the username and public key of AnyTime users your phone has detected in range, and the strength of their Bluetooth signal. Signal strength is used only to indicate roughly how close someone is. It is not a location.
- Settings: choices such as whether you are discoverable, who may message you, and your light or dark theme.
- Technical log: a small diagnostic log of technical events, such as a connection opening or closing. It never contains the content of your messages, and it is not sent to us.
4. Information Shared with People Nearby
AnyTime exists to connect you with people around you, so some information is necessarily sent to other phones. It goes directly from your phone to theirs and does not pass through us.
4.1 What anyone in range can see
While you are set to "Discoverable," your phone regularly announces the following over Bluetooth to nearby devices:
- Your username, and
- Your public key, from which the short code shown after your username is derived.
This announcement is not encrypted, because it has to be readable by people you have not met yet. Anyone within Bluetooth range who is using AnyTime, or who is scanning for Bluetooth signals, may receive it. For that reason, please do not use your real name or anything sensitive as your username. You can turn "Discoverable" off in your Profile at any time, which stops these announcements.
Your date of birth and gender are not announced and are not sent to other users.
4.2 What the person you chat with can see
- Chat requests: when you say hi to someone, your username and your greeting are sent to that person.
- Messages and photos: everything you send in a chat is delivered to the person you are chatting with and is stored on their phone. They can keep, copy or screenshot it, and we cannot delete it from their device.
- Delivery and read status: the App tells the sender when a message has been delivered and when it has been read.
Chat requests, messages, photos and receipts are end-to-end encrypted between the two phones.
5. Information We Collect
We do not collect any personal information through AnyTime. The App has no account system on our side, no backend service and no way of sending your data to us.
Because we never receive your information:
- we do not sell it or share it with advertisers, data brokers or any other third party;
- we cannot read your messages or see who you talk to;
- we have nothing to hand over if a third party asks us for user data; and
- we cannot restore your account or your messages if you lose your phone or uninstall the App.
If you contact us by email, we will receive your email address and whatever you choose to write to us, and we will use it only to reply to you.
The same applies if you report another user. Reporting blocks that person on your phone and opens your email app with a message to us that contains the reason you chose, your username and identifier, and the username and identifier of the person you are reporting. Nothing is sent until you press Send in your email app. We use a report only to review it and, where the law requires, to pass it to the relevant authorities. See our Child Safety Standards.
6. Permissions and Why They Are Needed
AnyTime asks for the following Android permissions. Each one is used only for the purpose described.
- Nearby devices / Bluetooth: to discover AnyTime users around you, to let them discover you, and to exchange messages with them. This is the core function of the App.
- Nearby Wi-Fi devices (Android 13 and later): to send photos faster over a direct Wi-Fi link between the two phones. No internet connection or Wi-Fi network is involved.
- Location (Android 12 and earlier only): on these Android versions the operating system requires the Location permission before any app may scan for Bluetooth or nearby Wi-Fi devices. AnyTime does not read your GPS position, and it does not determine, store or share your location. On Android 13 and later the App does not request this permission.
- Notifications: to tell you about new messages and chat requests, and to show the ongoing notification that keeps your connection to nearby people alive while the App is in the background. Message text is hidden on the lock screen.
- Internet: Android requires this permission for the different parts of the App to talk to each other inside your own phone. The App does not use it to send your data over the internet.
You can review or withdraw these permissions at any time in your phone's Settings. Without the Bluetooth permission the App cannot find or reach anyone.
7. Photos and Camera
- AnyTime does not request access to your camera or to your photo library. When you attach a photo, your phone's own photo picker or camera app opens, and only the single photo you choose or take is handed to AnyTime.
- The App makes a smaller, compressed copy of that photo so that it can be sent over Bluetooth. That copy is stored on your phone and sent to the person you are chatting with.
- Photos are sent only when you choose to send them. The App never accesses your photos in the background.
8. Third-Party Services
AnyTime contains no advertising, analytics, tracking or crash-reporting software.
The App uses one component from Google:
- Google Play services (Nearby Connections): used to transfer photos directly between two nearby phones over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. AnyTime encrypts a photo before handing it to this component, so the component carries data it cannot read. Google Play services is part of your Android device and is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. On phones without Google Play services this component is not used, and photos are sent over Bluetooth instead.
If you download AnyTime from Google Play, Google handles the download and may collect information about it under its own policies. We do not control that.
9. Data Security
- In transit: chat requests, messages, photos and receipts are end-to-end encrypted between the two phones using the Noise protocol with modern, well-reviewed ciphers. Someone else in Bluetooth range can tell that two devices are communicating, but cannot read what they send.
- On your device: the App's data is kept in private app storage that other apps cannot read, and the text of your messages and your photos are additionally encrypted within it.
- Backups: the App's data is excluded from Android's cloud backup, so your keys and messages are not copied to a cloud account.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the App and read your conversations, so we recommend protecting your phone with a screen lock. Usernames are chosen freely and are not verified, so be careful about what you share with people you do not know.
10. Data Retention and Deleting Your Data
Your information stays on your phone for as long as you keep the App installed. We hold no copy of it, so there is nothing for us to retain and nothing you need to ask us to delete.
You can delete your AnyTime account and all of its data at any time, without contacting us, in either of these ways:
- Uninstall the App. This permanently removes your account, your identity keys, your contacts and all of your messages and photos from your phone.
- Clear the App's data while keeping it installed: open your phone's Settings, then Apps, then AnyTime, then Storage, and choose "Clear data" (also called "Clear storage").
Either step is permanent. Because nothing is stored on a server, your account and messages cannot be recovered afterwards.
Messages and photos you have already sent remain on the phones of the people you sent them to. We have no access to those devices and cannot delete them; you would need to ask the recipient to remove them.
11. Children's Privacy
AnyTime is not intended for children under the age of 13. The App asks for a date of birth during setup and does not allow anyone under 13 to create an account.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and, as described above, we do not collect personal information from any user. The date of birth entered during setup stays on the device. If you are a parent or guardian and have questions about your child's use of the App, please contact us at [email protected].
AnyTime has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. Our Child Safety Standards explain what is prohibited and how to report a concern.
12. Your Rights and Choices
Privacy laws in many places give you rights to access, correct, export or delete the personal data an organisation holds about you. With AnyTime, that data is held by you, on your own phone, and not by us. You can exercise these choices directly:
- See and correct: view and change your username, gender and settings in your Profile.
- Control visibility: turn "Discoverable" off, choose who may message you, and block anyone you do not want to hear from.
- Report: report any user from the chat menu or from a request.
- Delete: remove everything at any time as described in section 10.
- Withdraw permissions: change the App's permissions in your phone's Settings.
If you have a question about your rights, or believe we hold information about you, contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if a new version of the App changes how information is handled. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also describe it in the App's release notes.
Your continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
